Two annual events that focus on improving the City of Mesa, neighborhood to neighborhood, are returning at the end of October, and Mesa Leadership is hoping to make its presence known.
So many of our alumni say that the best part of their experience in Mesa Leadership was in realizing just how many nonprofit organizations impacted the City in varied and amazing ways. Each year on the 4th Saturday of October (the 27th of this month), cities across the nation like Mesa celebrate Make a Difference Day. Even better, we are forming a Mesa Leadership team to take on a local project; when you sign up together and you will be joined by over 1500 volunteers in more than 50 Love Your Block projects across the City of Mesa. Examples of service projects include painting walls and curb numbers; cleaning up parks, alleys and canals; distributing neighborhood resource bags and helping residents who need assistance with painting and landscaping. Two of our new class members have agreed to be the point people in forming the team, so if you would like Mesa Leadership to make a strong showing, please contact Philip Young at firstname.lastname@example.org, or Andrea Blazier at email@example.com. The second event, held on the same day (October 27) is Latino Town Hall. The Mesa Association of Hispanic Citizens presents the Latino Town Hall annually. Please don’t let the title mislead you – EVERYONE is welcome to attend the Saturday, October 27 event, with workshops, speakers and the opportunity to learn more about your community and grow. The Mesa Latino Town Hall is a one-of-a-kind event in the East Valley that has received in-kind and financial support from a cross section of organizations in our community including, but not limited to, Mesa Community College, Mesa Public Schools, City of Mesa, SRP, Mesa Arts Center, The Arizona Republic, among others.
